Peace Arch Hospital Foundation Projects: Healing Starts Here – Kitchen Campaign

Healing Starts Here – Kitchen Campaign

An exciting new project is underway...

At Peace Arch Hospital Foundation, we understand that a patient’s healing journey is supported not only by excellent medical care but also by the nourishment they receive. As part of our commitment to delivering the highest quality of care, we are embarking on a transformative project — the Production Kitchen Renovation. This initiative is designed to modernize our outdated kitchen facilities, elevate food services, and enhance the dining experience for patients, visitors, and staff alike.

Built in 2004, Peace Arch Hospital’s current kitchen operates under a “Prepared and Retherm” model, relying on pre-cooked, mass-produced meals that are reheated in commercial carts prior to serving. With aging equipment well beyond its lifespan, we now have the unique opportunity to transition to a state-of-the-art production kitchen. This shift will allow us to cook meals on-site, offering fresher, healthier options tailored to the individual preferences of each patient with a new Choice Dining system.

  • Chefs, dietitians, and dedicated food service staff will come together to create a new healthcare cuisine.

  • Redefine hospital food.

  • Renovate existing retherm kitchen and cafeteria spaces.

  • New, state-of-the-art cooking equipment will be used to prepare fresh, nutritious meals on-site.

People might be shocked to know that 45% of patients are arriving already malnourished, and when they don’t eat, their length of stay increases by 50%. If patients can choose meals that resonate with their personal preferences, including ordering from our new cultural menus, it will enhance their overall care and recovery experience.”
