Peace Arch Hospital Foundation recognized six individuals and one business group at our annual Friends of the Foundation celebration held September 25 at Morgan Creek Golf Club. Now in its 16th year, this event celebrates dedicated community members for their extraordinary contribution to the health and wellness of our community through their support of the Foundation.

More than 100 people attended the celebration, filling a room full of leaders through their giving, support, and commitment to the Foundation.

This year’s award recipients included:

1. Ricardo Duran, a nuclear medicine technologist who joined the team at Peace Arch in 2018 as department supervisor. He has provided tremendous support to the Foundation during the Medical Imaging Campaign, leading countless donor tours, talking to donors and lending his expertise and insight into nuclear medicine.

2. Ed and Johanna Kampschuur, longtime supporters for the Foundation who have donated more than $660,000 over the last six years. They were major contributors to the Medical Imaging Campaign with the purchase of one of the new portable ultrasound machines, as well as gifts to fund an additional ultrasound unit in the anesthesia department of the OR, multiple pieces of lab equipment, and orthopedic and urology surgical equipment.

3. William Sapphire, a portfolio manager at RBC Wealth Management who believes in giving back and spreading the spirit of giving. He served on the volunteer committee for the Medical Imaging Campaign for two years and has helped plan donor events, made new connections, and led seminar to promote giving and donating securities in kind.

4. Maya Dusangh, a remarkable young leader who was an integral part of Foundation’s Youth In Action program for the past two years. She has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to make a meaningful impact, making her a standout ambassador for youth and us all.

5. Tim Hortons – Nomis Food Services Inc., and owner Simon Loo, who is the local Tim Hortons operator of several locations in Surrey. For the past three years, Simon has hosted an annual “Smile Cookie Day” fundraiser at his Tim Hortons locations, raising more than $85,000 to Peace Arch Hospital Foundation.

6. Gordon Barefoot, an involved community member who believes in the importance of health in our community. He has generously volunteered his time as one of the Co-Chairs of the Medical Imaging Campaign and was the first donor to commit to a pledge for the campaign. He volunteered countless hours in tours, meetings, ribbon cuttings, and donor conversations, showcasing his true passion and dedication for this campaign.

7. Ingrid Yang is a dedicated and accomplished Grade 11 student with a commitment to giving back to her community. She has organized the White Rock Badminton Tournament for the past two years, raising more than $30,000 for the Medical Imaging Campaign.
