Peace Arch Hospital

Peace Arch Hospital is a true community hospital, having been built entirely on land that was either donated or purchased by the community. It opened its doors in August, 1954 with just 50 beds, five doctors and 10 nurses. Today, Peace Arch Hospital is one of 12 acute-care hospitals located within the Fraser Health Authority.

Master Concept Plan

The area of White Rock/South Surrey is growing rapidly and Peace Arch is on track to evolve with it. In 2011, the Foundation and Fraser Health jointly funded a Master Concept Plan for Peace Arch Hospital. The plan is based on future service demand projections and is meant to guide future facility investment decisions as well as provide a framework for ongoing facility planning.

Several of Peace Arch Hospital’s programs were identified as struggling to provide a high level of service due to an expanding volume of patients, increasing complexity and lack of space. Overall growth projections indicate that by 2030, up to 362 beds will be required from the current 169 available beds. Additionally, the Emergency Department was identified as a priority to increase treatment spaces from the current 10 to 46, based on patient visits.

Priorities Identified in the 2011 Master Concept Plan include:

  • Expansion of Peace Arch Hospital’s Emergency Department – now complete!
  • Expansion of Residential Care capacity – now complete!
  • Redevelopment of OR and Surgical inpatient program – now complete!
  • Future priorities identified by 2030 include a new Production Kitchen, ICU and Acute Care tower.
