White Rock, B.C. — Semiahmoo Shopping Centre’s annual gift wrap station raised nearly $15,000 for Peace Arch Hospital this holiday season. The gift wrap booth, which was available to local shoppers and community members by donation, ran from November 15 to December 24, 2020.

“We’re so thankful to Semiahmoo Shopping Centre for allowing us to be the beneficiary of the 2020 Christmas gift wrap station,” said Amy Westen, Special Projects Officer at Peace Arch Hospital Foundation. “They were a fabulous partner during what was our first time taking part in an event of this type, kindly donating the necessary storefront space, security services, and supplies.”

Funds raised at the gift wrap station were designated towards Peace Arch Hospital Foundation’s (PAHF) campaign to “wrap up” construction on five new operating suites. The new operating suites will substantially increase the quality and quantity of surgical treatments provided at Peace Arch Hospital. They will be built to the best practice standards for modern surgical requirements, and ensure the hospital is prepared for all needs over the next 20 years.

“It’s only a matter of time before you, a member of your family, or a close friend will come through the doors of Peace Arch Hospital in need of immediate care,” said Kate Ludlam, Director of Philanthropy at PAHF. “Donations made at the gift wrapping station will help ensure we’re ready for you.”

“It was wonderful to see the community come together after such a difficult, uncertain year,” added Westen. “From volunteers, to donors, busy shoppers, and even other store owners, the holiday spirit of giving was alive and well!”

During the few short weeks in operation, volunteer gift wrappers packaged up a total of 1,552 gifts. “This is a remarkable accomplishment in so many ways, ” said Ludlam. “Not only were our volunteers kept busy but donors were incredibly supportive. The pandemic has impacted so many in our community and the hospital is on the front lines of this critical fight.  The most important result of the gift wrapping success this year is that we’ll be able to provide the best care for our patients and our community at a time when they need it most.”
