Youth in Action – A Community Engagement Program for Students

The Youth In Action program is designed for grades 10-12 students in South Surrey and White Rock who want to make a difference, get hands-on volunteer experience, and get involved with helping to make their community the healthiest possible.

**APPLICATIONS FOR CURRENT INTAKE PERIOD ARE NOW CLOSED**

Through the program, youth will take part in a variety of volunteer experiences, healthy lifestyle activities and learn how to organize, plan, and execute a fundraising event. Youth will also learn about different careers, job skills, and organizations from guest speakers at the monthly meetings.

Eligibility

The program is available to students who are in grades 10-12. Students who are currently in grade 9 and will be in grade 10 in September 2024 are eligible to apply.

Youth must attend one of the following schools in the South Surrey White Rock area:

  • Semiahmoo Secondary
  • Elgin Park Secondary
  • Earl Marriott Secondary
  • White Rock Christian Academy
  • Southridge School
  • Saint John Paul II Academy
  • Grandview Heights Secondary

Time commitment:

Youth In Action will run September 2024 to June 2025. The average time commitment per month is 5-7 hours. This time commitment is made up of activities such as the monthly program meeting, volunteer opportunities, and healthy lifestyle activities. Only three meetings can be missed throughout the entire year in order to stay in the program.

Membership

Youth In Action has 30 spots available per year and members are accepted through an application and phone interview process. Each youth can only be a member of the program for a maximum of two years and must reapply each year.

Application Process

Applications for our next intake period open April 1, 2025 and the deadline to submit the application is May 31, 2025. All applications will be reviewed by the Community Engagement Officer and if successful, applicants will be contacted for a short phone interview. The short list of chosen applicants will then be reviewed by a committee of Peace Arch Hospital Foundation staff.

*Please note, due to the volume of applications received, only those selected to move forward in the process will receive a phone interview. Thank you!

  2. Download and complete full application. Please ensure all sections are completed, along with signatures and letter(s) of support. Incomplete applications will be not considered.
